Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation

From the times of the apostles, one celebrated Sunday in memory of Christ’s suffering, death and resurrection. It is therefore one is duty bound to keep the day holy by attending mass and avoiding things which prevent the worship of God. It should be a day of mental and physical rest.

During the mass the Risen Saviour gathers his brothers and sisters to him, speaks to them and leads them forth to the Father in the Holy Spirit. The mass is the central point of gathering for God’s people and each individual’s life. Therefore, there must be serious grounds for not attending mass on Sundays or Saturday evening. In Denmark, Christmas Day and Ascension Day are holy days of obligation.
